Celebrating beauty is always a special occasion. And so, as every year, the traditional fashion event lived up to its promise of spectacle and color. For its 22nd edition, the’Kaftan 2018 Event brought together thousands of stylists from the four corners of the globe. Here, we take a look at this eagerly-awaited event from a variety of angles.
A Kaftan Special
Initiated by the famous Femme Du Monde (FDM) magazine, Kaftan is an annual event that brings together fashion designers of all kinds from all over the world. It provides the perfect opportunity for designers to unveil their latest creations. Here are this year’s distinguished guests:
- Designers such as Kaftan Skalli and Salima El Boussouni, renowned for their artistic talent;
- 16 designers present their latest creations;
- Song star Asmaa Lamnawar and renowned fashion designer Amina Boussayri;
- Numerous designers and artists, each as singular as the next.
It took place on April 14, 2018 in the Moroccan city of Marrakech for the sixth consecutive year. The primary aim of this organization is to showcase the Moroccan haute couture and reveal the artistic and cultural inspirations of the Cherifian Kingdom.
A symbolic 2018 theme
The theme of the 22nd edition is «the world's ethnic groups». The theme was chosen to pay tribute to the various races and ethnic groups, peoples and tribes of the world. This edition therefore celebrates the emotions of all those men and women who, through their way of life, teach everyone the fundamental values of Caftans. Through the fashion shows and artistic tableaux presented, the whole of Africa is celebrated.
The Models at the Heart of Kaftan 2018
With the primary aim of celebrating traditional Moroccan dress, the entire event unveiled a palette of fashion, music and dance. The 16 designers showcased Moroccan clothing, but also universal. These include :
- Andalusian styles, Egyptian canvases and an artistic Viking painting;
- A «tone on tone» collection of black outfits with mosaic colors;
- Indian and New Zealand creations to the rhythms of the famous zither instrument;
- Clothes and large embroideries from the Tsarist dynasty.
Other cultures like the Amazigh, Ottoman civilization, Russian traditions and Judeo-Moroccan heritage were not missing from this magnificent celebration of beauty.
Other event
Under the sign of mode, Kaftan also provides an opportunity to support a worthy cause: the children of SOS Villages. To that end, Zineb Taimouri, editor-in-chief of the magazine that founded the event, announced a special initiative for the children of the village. She hopes to give them the opportunity to get closer to designers and discover hidden talents.
